The gift of discernment

Blogger is being weird with this one. Imagine that. The media attachment that was supposed to be here says, "God never gives us discernment in order that we may criticize, but that we may intercede." Oswald Chambers.

How often have you been given insight into something? It just came out of nowhere and there it is in your lap, looking at you like a lost puppy. What do you do? God gave you discernment or insight into something, and that is a gift. What did you do with it? You just went "huh" and went about your day? Did you say something? Think about it a while and then no more? I've done all of those.

Many times we take these things to that person or situation and work on them ourselves. I think that's okay but not the best way. If God absolutely tells you to go take that person into your home and take care of them or whatever, go do that. But, often the answer of what to do with that insight that ends up in our laps is to pray. Be humble about what God gave you and go pray for that person. He gave you a burden for them. Bear that burden. Don't let them carry it alone. I've been praying for some people for years and I don't know what's going on with them. All I know is God told me to keep at it. Who knows who He is telling to pray for me? Wouldn't I want them to keep praying, even if they don't know exactly what to pray? God bless them!

God calls all of us to be intercessors. That is the role of the Holy Spirit, the part of God no one knows much about. But, He's in you! Interceding. The next time God puts something in my lap and I wonder how it got there, I'm going to pray about it. What should I do with this? How should I pray about this? (See how little I know?) Every time we do that, we send a little more treasure to heaven and bring heaven a little closer to those on earth. It may be someone you'd rather not pray for. Maybe you have something against them. Maybe they have something against you. All the more reason to pray because I bet God is also trying to free up something in you that needs to be free. Two birds with one stone. Expect to walk a little closer to Him after being faithful in something difficult. God asks us to do difficult things sometimes, but there is eternal value in that brief suffering. Amen.

Thank you for reading. And God bless.
